WAR TRAUMA & REFUGEE EXPERIENCE
Developmental Trauma in the Context of War and Relocation
$30
COURSE DESCRIPTION
It is well known that among Australia's intake of refugee and humanitarian entrants are children and young people.
When these children and young people arrive in Australia, they bring with them a narrative significantly affect by their traumatic experiences.
Educational professionals working with this vulnerable group will gain an understanding of the effects of the multiple types of trauma these children have been exposed to and how their trauma experiences will impact on their development, relationships and resettlement.
Beginning with an overview of neuro-biological development, this day facilitates a greater understanding of the effects of war and relocation on social development and learning. Further, it provides a lens through which to view challenging behavior related to war and relocation, a framework to respond to these children effectively and trauma sensitive approaches, activities and strategies to engage them in learning.
