ENGLISH AS AN ADDITIONAL LANGUAGES CONFERENCE

The English as an additional Language Team will host two days of professional learning and networking for leaders and teachers supporting students from culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds, including EAL students, New Arrivals and students with refugee experience.

Participation is free for leaders and teachers in Catholic Schools in South Australia.

Thursday 23 October will feature key notes from Misty Adoniou and Chris Payne.

Misty will speak about the concept of “Pedagogies of Entitlement” in the Australian Curriculum and their relevance to students developing the English language proficiency needed for learning.

Chris will share the trial of the “Reading to Learn” program that she has led for the past 2 years.  Her presentation will examine teacher and student learning data to illustrate the effectiveness of this approach.

Friday 24 October will focus on students from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds, including students with refugee experience and complex needs.

Presentations and workshops will illustrate practices in schools to welcome, include, support and nurture students from different cultural backgrounds and engage their families in schools life.

This conference will be the EAL Network days for term 4.  Therefore all EAL Network Teachers are expected to attend both days.

Key literacy teachers and others supporting EAL students in schools are welcome to attend.

Participants please bring your own mobile device and name badge.
